Some proverbs aren't written
Down they make their way through
Throats caught midway
Between hot and cold weather
Writer's block means we only use
The proverbs that work well in
English, anyway.

Look, she said to me
Jerusalem is a city that lies
And I want to know
Who is lying to me
Why
How much
When
And where

writer's block

into the water
plunged my fingers
plunged my
fingers
one day honey
another day onions
market smells
and soldiers
or the spring rises
with each and every drip of
olive oil
hot and sticky
poems don't have
to make sense
